Wave Surf Café in Bordeaux
In the heart of the city of Bordeaux, a new, amazing and fun surf activity...
Philippe is the co owner of Wave Surf Café, a new concept of Surf activity, just launched in the heart of Bordeaux. Guided tour through some questions to find out all about the best and secret tips of this new concept...
1 / Hi Philippe, can you tell us who is behind the project and how you came to the idea of establishing a Wave Surf Café in Bordeaux ?
We are two surf sensations lovers through bodyboarding, skiing, snowboarding. Damien Brad my partner was also a ski instructor. Bordeaux is close to the sea and mountains and its inhabitants are rather sensitive to water and winter sports. Bordeaux has got a large community of riders, and as we are both from Bordeaux, the choice of the city seemed to be obvious.
2 / This is an attractive project but an important investment. What is your goal ?
Indeed it is an important investment. Our goal is to reach 16,000 sessions a year. For that we must reach a wide audience and raise awareness to the surf sport in a friendly and secure environment. That's the big advantage of our wave which practice is very accessible.
3 / How does the artificial wave work ? Will it be possible to get a tube ride as in the Artificial Wave in Singapore ?
No there will be no tube, this wave is like an inclined liner on which water is projected at 35km/h, in order to reproduce the sensations of surfing, bodyboarding but also Skimboarding and snowboard moves.
3 / Who can practice this activity ?
This activity is intended for both surf sports lovers and amateurs who want to discover a new activity. Children can also start from 8 years and are indeed one of our main targets as well as clubs and associations from all over Aquitaine, students, families and groups of friends.
4 / Must be a solid surfer to practice ?
No, as I said the practice is open to all and thus to the novice of surf. Obviously practice of a surf sport is a benefit to your first ride in Wave Surf, but that is another technique and method to be learned. I repeat, all surf sports novice can quickly enjoy the wave.
5 / Is it a risky activity ?
Absolutely not. First, we can adjust the flow so that it is less powerful for children especially. Moreover, an instructor is always present to enforce a few safety rules.
5 / What is the price range ?
The price depends on the formula purchased by our customers. For beginners, the one hour discovery session, highly recommended, is 23 €. This will be the average price of a one-hour session depending of the formulas. The most advantageous formula is to privatize the wave for an hour and 10 people. Then the amounts is 20.50 € per person.
6/ What can we do when expecting the wave ? Chill, have soft drinks, listen to good music sounds ?
Sofas and armchairs in the bar area and on the mezzanine will allow customers to talk quietly about their exploits and enjoy a unique setting in a great atmosphere : Large volume, stone walls and exposed beams, all illuminated by daylight through two large windows of 50 sqm. A bar / snack will also offer drink and snacks.
7 / Can we jump into the water soon ?
Yes, it is coming soon. The opening is scheduled for the end of May 2015, we have not already decided of the exact date. Whatever happens it will soon be possible to surf in Bordeaux city after work, between noon and two and during weekends.
The Endless Summer in fact !
