Endless Summer The movie
Video of the mythical Surf movie that inspired us for our Blog...
For those who are wondering why we named our Blog 'ENDLESS SUMMER " let us give you some explanations...
The title symbolizes our surfer's secret dream, the ENDLESS SUMMER, the one that would carry us slowly from warm September days directly to the first sun of spring. There would be only one season, the ENDLESS SUMMER. We would still see warm colors of September and the bright light of spring, but we would keep only one season to get surf drunk.
The film is a journey around the world, as a race after the waves that roam the blue planet, so they would never cease to break. This is one of the first surf movie that mix travel and surf through a poetic angle and is detached from the problems of civilization.
As a break in time to remind us of the values of the land and the ocean.
For us at Destination Surf it is the first film that pushed our desire to travel and to share our passion for Surf travel.
The storyboard : The Endless Summer is an American surf documentary filmed and directed in1966 by Bruce Brown. A simple poetic and adventurous narrative.
Two surfers, Mike Hynson and Robert August, depart for a trip around the world. In Africa they explore the coast of Senegal and the Isle of N'Gor, Ghana still unknown today, Cape St Francis in South Africa, but also remote corners of Australia and New Zealand.
The tour goes also through Tahiti and Polynesia, and stop in Hawaii before returning home to California.
The Library of Congress decided in 2002 to its preservation in the Film National Register because of its "cultural, historical and aesthetic." importance.
We agree with that, as the movie didn't get old, as those masterpieces that you can watch 100 times without boring.
An Endless Summer 2 was released in 1994 ( a lot of surfers do not know it either !) Beautiful second opus, still in the spirit of the first volume, introducing the young (older today) surfer Pat O'Conell who reveal beautiful Costa Rica to a large public.
So if you've never watched it, it's time to stall two pillows behind your head, have a beer or a glass of white wine and go on travel with Mike, Robert and Pat.
We introduce you some sequences in these two videos.
Fun to compare the session in South Africa on the same spot at Cape St Francis in 1966 and in 1994, 30 years later ...
